I just finished reading “On a Quest for Christ, tracing the footsteps of your Spiritual journey†by Lisa Are Wulf . I have mixed emotions when it comes to this book. The concept of a book with added pages for personal journal writing appealed to me but the chapters or discussions were not as in depth as I would have liked.
Each chapter or discussion study was approximately 4 pages long. Each chapter started out with a scripture, then a couple paragraph story. The author then adds her story and questions for the reader to add their own story or thoughts. For someone who does not want to spend a lot of time in daily devotion, this would be great. For someone who just wants a quick pick-me up, this book would be great but to the reader who wants an in-depth study guide to document their spiritual journey, this book will not give them the motivation they require. However, it is a great starting point.
“On a quest for Christ†is a 30 day devotional that helps the reader to trace their steps from the first to the last of this journey. The added pages in the book are used to keep a personal journal. They have questions to help the reader ponder the scriptures and their own feelings on them.
I really liked the authors style but would have liked to have seen more detail go into each devotional.
For me personally, I want a more in-depth study guide. I want to go deep into the scriptures. I do however love how the author uses modern day stories and issues to bring the scripture verse to life for the reader.
As a result of all the reasons listed above, I will give separate ratings. I will explain my reason for each.
For the “pick me-up†reader, I rate this book a 5 star
For the “Don’t have time to study†reader, I rate this book a 5 star
For the “I want to feel Spiritual†reader, I rate this book a 3 star
I do recommend this book for a great way to end the day. It would be great to keep on the night stand. Just remember to add a pen close by as well so you can write down your thoughts. I think it would be perfect for teenagers who are just starting their journey with Jesus as a more active role in their lives.
I personally like a more in-depth study of the scriptures and I keep a journal with my thoughts so this book would not be one I would purchase for myself but would purchase for some of my friends. It would be a great introduction book for a person who is searching for meaning in their life. I can think of several of my friends for whom this book would be perfect for.
